The
number of activities available on board the vessels vary according to
type. Features common to all program guides aboard the safari/cruise vessels
include visits to resort islands, local fishing islands, and visits to
desert islands. Each activity can be an adventure in itself. In the resort
islands you can spend time marvelling at the way Maldivian resorts have
incorporated the magnificent beauty of nature with today's sophistication,
or you yourself can take a break from life at sea and indulge in some
of the luxuries on offer on land.
Stopping
by for a barbecue on the beach of a desert island is the norm on all cruise
vessels, and makes for an extremely enjoyable activity. Fresh fish caught
by your crew - or even yourself - can be the main course. This veritable
feast is invariably followed by snorkelling in the waters of these virgin
islands where the coral gardens remain untouched and the numerous fish
swim by undisturbed.
Visits to the locally
inhabited islands are a lesson in life itself. Observing the way that
the small fishing communities of the Maldives has perfected the art of
self-sufficiency through centuries of dependence on the sea is extremely
satisfying to the soul. Life on these islands is all about contentment
and enjoying the simple things in life. If you are worried about nightlife,
don't be. Most of these boats often take you to locally islands for a
cultural night of traditional music and dancing or you can opt to stay
on for a disco at one of the resorts that you visit.
