click to enlargeCaring for the environment is important wherever you holiday, but nowhere is this more important than in the Maldives.

The Maldives are beautiful islands and we would like you to help keep them this way. They do not have the means of disposing of large amounts of rubbish. Unless you want these idyllic isles to turn into a floating dustbin surrounded by dirty waters, always take a bag with you on outings, put into it all your garbage: batteries, glass, plastic, aluminum and so on, and take it home with you. Always remember the maxim: Take only photographs; leave only footprints.

Maldivian authorities have introduced laws to prohibit the trade in all turtle products. Import and export is illegal and the law is strictly applied. Any shops dealing in this trade will have their license withdrawn. The catching of turtles has also been prohibited. If anyone offers you turtle products, please report it to the authorities or your Sun Travel representative so that legal action may be taken.

The coral is a fragile environment. It is extremely sensitive to variations in temperature and light. In recent years, due to global warming and air pollution, some areas of coral have been bleached. However, this is not an irreversible process and does not mean that the coral is dead. Best Dive spots are still in very good condition.
